Upon receiving the ransom, Fafnir felt immense greed and he killed his father to get all of it for himself. He carried the gold into the wilderness, where he turned into a dragon – a symbol of greed and eternal guardian of treasure. Fafnir was well regarded among Norse, and warriors often wore his sigil, the Helm of Awe, to garner the dragon’s strength and tenacity in battle.
