How to Measure Your Ring Size

Purchasing your first ring is exciting, but choosing the correct size can be tricky. The methods below will help you find the best-fitting ring size before placing your order.

1. Have Your Finger Professionally Measured

Recommended for the best accuracy. If you are purchasing an expensive ring, a handcrafted piece, or simply want the best chance of getting the fit right the first time, professional measurement is the most reliable option.

Most local jewelers can measure your finger accurately in just a few minutes. You can also use a professional ring sizing set at home if one is available to you.

2. Measure a Ring That Already Fits

If you already own a ring that fits the intended finger well, measure its inside diameter from one inner edge directly across to the opposite inner edge.

Enter that measurement into the converter above using Inside Diameter (mm), or compare it with the diameter column in the conversion chart below.

If the reference ring feels slightly tight or loose, consider moving approximately half a US size in the appropriate direction.

3. Measure Your Finger With String or Paper

You can also estimate your ring size at home using a piece of non-stretch string, ribbon, or a narrow strip of paper. This method can work well when performed carefully.

For better accuracy, repeat the measurement several times and, if possible, have another person help you.

Take a piece of non-stretch string, ribbon, or a narrow strip of paper long enough to wrap around your finger.
Wrap it around the finger where the ring will sit. Keep it straight and comfortably snug rather than pulling it tightly.
If your knuckle is noticeably wider than the base of your finger, measure the knuckle as well. You may need a size that balances passing over the knuckle with fitting comfortably at the base of the finger.
Mark the point where the ends overlap.
Lay the string or paper flat and measure the marked length in millimetres.

Sizing tip: Finger size can change slightly with temperature, activity and time of day. For a more dependable result, measure several times and avoid measuring when your hands are unusually cold or swollen.
