Genuine handcrafted brass amulet replicating charm artifact found in Gnezdovo archeological site from the 10th century. While it is unconfirmed who this mask was said to belong to, this charm was believed to trick enemies into thinking its owners were stronger than they seem and thus ward away the danger. In our day, many conclude that this mask was a symbol of Loki, as trickery and shapeshifting was believed to be his domain. The second side of the pendant is complete with an Algiz rune symbolizing defense and meaning 'elk spirit'.

Loki, the devious trickster and the God of fire in Norse mythology, was a son of the giant Farbauti, however he was still included among the Norse Aesir pantheon. In legends, Loki was a companion of the great Gods Odin and Thor both helping them with ingenious plans and causing mischief and trouble, and a cunning shapeshifter able to change both his size and sex. Father to some of the famous Norse beings such as Hel, wolf Fenrir and world serpent Jormungandr, Loki also gave birth to Odin’s eight-legged steed Sleipnir during one of his shapeshifting exploits. Often being at odds with many other Gods, Loki’s legend ended being brutally bound to a rock for causing death of the God Balder.
