Genuine handcrafted 925 Sterling Silver Jormungandr ring engraved with Elder runes and with a Helm of Awe rune shield at its tail. The Helm of Awe rune has a small green gemstone embedded in its center. This ring is smoothly polished on the inside for comfortable wear, and comes in a variety of sizes. For more information on how to accurately measure your finger size, please refer to our Ring Sizing Guide image in the photo slideshow. The size of this ring can also be adjusted by firmly pulling the ring apart or pushing the ring together until the desired size is reached. To avoid damaging the ring while adjusting, it is recommended to apply adjustments slowly and to not exceed the product size limitations.
Jormungandr is the enormous world serpent, which by the legends was tossed into the ocean by Odin. Finding safety and plethora of food in the ocean’s waters, Jormungandr has grown so big that he managed to coil around the land and grasp its own tail with its jaws. In Norse mythology, this serpent biting his own tail is another iconography of cycle of eternity, and once Jormungandr releases its tail, the eternity shall end and the end of all worlds, Ragnarok, shall begin.
The Helm of Awe, also known as Aegishjalmur or Viking Compass, is a mysterious and powerful symbol in Norse mythology. Described in one of the poems in the Poetic Edda, this symbol was worn by the terrifying guardian dragon of cursed treasure known as Fafnir. In the poem, much of Fafnir’s strength and invincibility is attributed to this symbol worn between his brows, and many Norse warriors would follow in his stead wearing this symbol to grant them the dragon’s ferocity. In addition to the legend, each arm of the Helm of Awe resembles the Old Norse Z rune, which symbolized protection and victory in battle.
